In 1974, golf professionals Tony D'Erico, Tom Smith, Craig Deer and Glenn Roberson appeared before the Executive Committee of the Carolinas Section PGA with a written request to establish a "Mountains Chapter". On June of 1975, The Section issued a grant of Simulated Chapter Status for one year. On July 1, 1975, the first meeting took place at Etowah Valley Golf Club following the first round of play of their Annual Pro Am event.
From there, the Chapter requested a permanent position as the Mountains Chapter of the Carolinas Section PGA. Thanks to Sherill Austin, the President of the Carolinas Section PGA, we became an empowered Chapter of the CPGA.
This year we hope to have a roster of well over 100 professionals, representing over 70 facilities. Any member of the Carolinas Section PGA can become a member of the Mountains Chapter.
